Ethereum developers are contemplating a strategic split of the much-anticipated Pectra upgrade into two phases to expedite its deployment and fulfill community demands. The aim is to launch the initial phase early in 2025, with a potential deadline set for February.
Due to the intricacy of the upgrade, experts argue that dividing Pectra is essential. Notably, Galaxy crypto researcher Christine Kim highlights that a two-phase rollout could significantly alter the upgrade’s scope.
The Pectra upgrade merges the Prague upgrade for the execution layer and the Electra upgrade for the consensus layer, with the goal of improving scalability and operational effectiveness within the Ethereum blockchain.
The Ethereum community maintains a positive outlook on this upgrade, expecting it to be among the most substantial in Ethereum’s journey. A final decision regarding the split is anticipated to be made during the upcoming Ethereum All Core Developers meeting scheduled for September 19.
